Managing Harassment in the Workplace

DOHR have teamed up with Jewish Women’s Aid, The Board of Deputies, The Jewish Leadership Council and The Chief Rabbi’s Office to put together a comprehensive programme, helping organisations to identify and manage harassment in the workplace.

Working with 5 organisations over an initial 6 month project period, DOHR, JWA and fully trained volunteers will be working with employers, employees, trustees, volunteers, service users and donors to ensure that the organisation is a HARASSMENT FREE ZONE.

On this page, you will find useful information and links to external organisations and resources as well as some basic guidance for managing harassment in the workplace.

What is Harassment?

Harassment is unwanted conduct which is related to one of the following: age, disability, gender reassignment, race, religion or belief, sex and sexual orientation and is unlawful under The Equality Act 2010.

The Project

Project Initiation

The initial project will take place over 6 months and will commence with a survey to understand the current state. This survey will be retaken at 6, 12, 24 and 36 months after the initial survey to measure the long term impact of the project on the participating organisations.

Training

Initial Training will take place over a 3 day period and will involve all senior managers and a trustee who will be the internal sponsor.

Policies and Procedures

These have been developed and will be available to all participating organisations. It will be essential to ensure that they are not in conflict with any existing policies and procedures and that they are fully communicated to everyone within and in contact with the organisation.

Onsite Support

As part of the project, each organisation will be supported by a fully trained, experienced HR professional who has volunteered to assist with the roll out of this project. The exact nature of the support will be agreed between the volunteer and their organisation and will depend on the specific circumstances of each participating organisation.

Making it Real

This is when the training, policies and procedures are embedded into each organisation. As part of the training, each senior leadership team will have developed a plan specific to them and this will taken back to the workplace, communicated and embedded to ensure that everyone understands what is expected of them, how to ask for help and the consequences of non compliance with the HARASSMENT FREE ZONE philosophy.

Facebook Support Group

We have set up a Facebook Support Group to support the ‘Managing Harassment in the Workplace’ project. It is not a place for sharing sensitie information, but it is a place where we can share information, ideas and offer support. You can click on the image below to be whisked off to Facebook.

Workplace Harassment Helpline

In line with the goals of this project, we want your first port of call to be within your own organisation. However, this is not always possible for a variety of reasons.

The Team at DOHR are providing a helpline which is available Monday – Friday 9am – 5pm.

This is a sign posting service, designed enable you to identify the right person to speak to within your organisation and then to support you to have a conversation with the right person.

The call is confidential unless we have your express permission to share information. We will ask you your name and your organisation as we need this to ensure you get the help and support you need.
