Senior HR Advisor

To manage the HR advisors overseeing their workloads ensuring the quality of the advice they give and the service they provide. To provide training and support as required and to ensure compliance with internal policies and procedures, our company values and record keeping.

To provide HR advice and support to your assigned clients, in line with legislation, our company values and their terms of business. To identify and meet their ongoing HR needs and ensure that HR is of significant value to their business.

To provide support to other clients when their primary advisor is not available, or to delegate work amongst the team in line with skills and capacity.

Key Responsibilities

As an HR Advisor:

  • Using our internal company frameworks, support clients with all or any of the following:
    • Recruitment – administration and interviewing
    • Employee relations – supporting the business with management of grievances and disciplinaries, TUPE, redundancy, staff handbooks and employment contracts
    • HR Administration – production of customised documentation on either a company or individual level
    • HR Management – advice to clients on both a pro active and reactive basis, giving pros and cons of different solution options enabling the business owner to take an informed decision.
    • Training – to deliver training to clients in line with their identified needs
  • Manage the relationship with the client ensuring outstanding customer service, business focussed solutions and practical hands on support
  • Maintain accurate records to ensure seamless support in your absence and appropriate audit trails.

As a Line Manager:

  • To work with the Managing Director to assign clients to HR Advisors based on skills and capacity
  • To take management responsibility for the HR advisors and their delivery to clients
  • To manage performance on an ongoing basis through 121’s, appraisals, operations meetings, testimonials and complaints
  • To monitor attendance and manage sickness and absence among the team
  • To escalate significant issues either with clients or with staff to the Managing Director
  • To ensure that all standard documents and templates are updated in line with legislation, case law and best practice changes
  • To ensure that all HR Advisors are properly briefed and understand any employment legislation changes and the impact on their current or future clients.
  • To train and develop our HR Graduate Trainees on our 2-year HR Advisors programme.

Desired Skills & Experience

  • A track record in managing a team
  • Proven ability to provide robust HR support to a range of different business sectors
  • Able to work with small businesses and understand their unique HR requirements
  • Proven ability working in a fast paced, multi-functional HR environment
  • Able to demonstrate how clashing priorities have been managed effectively
  • CIPD qualified or qualified by experience
  • Driving licence and full access to a car is essential

Key Skills

  • Has an outstanding working knowledge of UK employment legislation and HR best practice and is able to apply this to client situations
  • Has a professional telephone manner and is able to fully support clients by telephone, giving clear instructions and advice
  • Has a writing style which is articulate, professional, easy to understand, jargon free and provides clear direction and easy to follow instructions or options identifying, pros and cons of each option as well as a recommended course of action
  • Understands and delivers outstanding customer service, while appreciating that what the client asks for and what they need are not always the same thing
  • Able to think through scenarios, not making assumptions based on limited information. Is able to subtly interrogate clients to understand the ‘real’ issue, their desired outcomes and what is and is not acceptable before generating a range of options for consideration and a preferred option for recommendation
  • Understands the commerciality of our business and takes decisions which balance the needs of the client with the needs of DOHR.
  • Advanced working knowledge of Microsoft Office
  • A working knowledge of CRM systems would be an advantage, but not essential
  • A working knowledge of HR information systems
  • Able to demonstrate maintenance of current employment legislation knowledge and skills through CPD

Terms and Conditions of Employment

  • Monday – Friday
  • 9am – 5pm with an hour for lunch
  • 25 days holiday
  • Work from home on Friday as long as able to do so productively, safely and without any other responsibilities
