Health and Safety in 2025 and Beyond

Health and Safety of workers must be a priority for all employers. Yes, it may mean a slightly slower pick rate, but it will also mean less injury and tribunal claims, decreased sickness absence and a better reputation. That leads to easier recruitment and retention. That has a positive impact on the bottom line.

As a small business owner, you too need to be aware of productivity, health and safety and the wellbeing of your staff. Too many small business owners focus on HR as a reactive function. They don’t deal with issues such as wellbeing until they have to.

Here are some thoughts for your 2025 planning:
🤔 Do we have a health and safety policy?
🤔 Do we have a wellbeing policy?
🤔 Do all our staff have the desk set up they need to work pain-free?
🤔 Are foot rests and chair cusions provided?
🤔 Is natural daylight able to enter the room?
🤔 Are screens free from glare?
🤔 Can staff leave their desks to eat lunch?
🤔 Is there an outdoor space staff can use?
🤔 Do our practices match our policies?
🤔 Are all staff taking adequate breaks?
🤔 Are staff using all their annual leave?
🤔 Is there access to medical advice?
🤔 Is there access to financial advice?

What does 2025 look like for your business?
What are you doing to make your workplace an amazing place to be? For you, your staff and your customers?

A recent report in the US indicates that Amazon are aware of the injuries caused by their working practices.

However, this applies equally to all businesses of all sizes across all sectors here in the UK.

People do not need length of service to bring a health and safety claim against their employers.
