PeopleTalk – January 2012

Welcome to the January issue of PeopleTalk

Welcome to the first 2012 edition of PeopleTalk. This is the time of year when both employers and employees are setting their goals for the next 12 months. For employees it is a time of ‘New Year’s Resolutions’ and for employers it is ‘Strategic Planning’: What do I want the business to look like this time next year? What steps do I need to take to get there? At the moment it is pretty hard to predict how the external environment will impact on our businesses, so the best we can do is plan what we want, how we are going to get there and continually monitor the external environment such as the economy and legislation to assess how they will impact on our company’s performance. We need to remain flexible and agile to ensure we are able to cope with whatever 2012 has to throw at us to secure our future success.

New Payment Mechanism

For many of our clients, being able to pay as you go for HR advice and assistance offers flexibility which has until now not been available. With the introduction of our credit card payment facility, clients are able to settle invoices and use our new pay as you go service. Credit card details will be held on our system for pay as you go clients and following ad hoc HR support through phone calls and emails an agreed fee will be charged to the client’s credit card.

Business Essentials Conference

Taking place on 29th February 2012 at the Holiday Inn, Elstree, this is an amazing one day conference which is specifically designed to be a one-stop-shop for employers. You will hear from industry expert speakers, take part in business enhancing workshops, network with local potential partner businesses and customers and meet useful suppliers in our exhibition area.
If you employ people and don’t have time to keep up to date with all the latest legislation, best practice and current thinking, this conference is for you. Our speakers will take you through everything from modern recruitment techniques in a time of social media and technology to HR in businesses with less than 100 people, Health and Safety, The Bribery Act and your legal obligations and Environmental Compliance.
This is not just a day of law and order, but a highly interactive, informative session- all for just £120 and it’s worth every penny. What you are prepared to pay for not attending? Just one hour with a lawyer could cost you double the price of this hugely important event! Don’t delay, spaces are limited.

Introducing The Giving Card

A New Kind of Benefit

When times get tough, pay rises, bonuses and social corporate responsibility are often among the first to be cut. As compensation and benefits advisors, we at DOHR are always looking for innovative ways thank our staff for their on-going contributions while ensuring value for money for our clients. To that end, DOHR are delighted to be able to introduce you to ‘The Giving Card’. Here, Alex Thomas of ‘The Giving Card’ explains how it works.

The Giving Card is an exciting discount card which offers your employees access to over 2000 offers and discounts throughout the UK. Offers include 50% off dining, 33% off MOTs, half price haircuts and beauty treatments. Our list of suppliers is growing daily and so far includes businesses such as Red Letter Days, Comfort Hotels, Enterprise Rent-a-Car, Interflora, Debenhams, Pizza Hut, Hotel du Vin, Halfords, Toni & Guy, M&S, Zipcar and many more.
Our RRP is £34.95; however, we provide further discounts for bulk buys.

How do charities benefit?
The Giving Card offers charities an easy way to raise extra revenue, involving no charges or stockholding and minimum effort on their part. Its aim is to reward people who want to support charities. Every year £10 from their annual subscription goes directly to their chosen charity whilst each cardholder enjoys year-round discounts with a huge range of companies.

How does The Giving Card differ from its competitors?
The Giving Card is not industry specific.
The Giving Card is not limited to one geographical area.
The Giving Card grants its members access to discounts both offline and online. It also features a Professional Services category that has never been featured in discount cards.

Why does The Giving Card make the ideal employee benefit?
The Giving Card makes the ideal employee benefit as it allows your staff to save money in a range of services, all year round. It is a benefit that can be used over and over again and can be shared by the whole family. In fact it is a gift that encourages social interaction and can be used as a means to entertain clients and build work relationships through the large range of restaurants and bars included in the scheme. It also works favourably for corporate Public Relations by highlighting a company’s stance on charitable donation.

For more information about how The Giving Card can be incorporated into your rewards and corporate social responsibility strategy, please contact Donna on 01923 504100.

Access to Resources

If you haven’t had the opportunity to take a look at our new website, now would be a good time. The content is continually developing and recently while standing outside a café in London waiting for a client, I was able to provide another client with the information they required by directing them to the right page on the website. Our Blog has been incorporated and we would love for you to add your comments to the discussions there. We also have a resource area with access to useful documents and information. Subscription clients will also have access to additional information and resources in a password protected area. Any feedback on our site is always welcome.
